RUBEN ROCA

MANAGING DIRECTOR

Ruben A. Roca is Managing Director of Roca Real Estate Advisors, an urban development advisory firm working with public and private sector clients. Mr. Roca’s work embraces a range of real estate activities, including developing associations with department store operators; formulating new development concepts to be implemented; acquisition of regional centers and portfolio of retail centers; development of new communities, identifying new retail opportunities; and working with development clients in the U.S. and Europe.  The client list includes.; El Corte Ingles Department Store in Spain and the U.S.; Ivanhoe Cambridge in the U.S., Europe and South America; Indetex (Zara) in the U.S. and Europe; the European Economic Community in European countries; Hamburg Warehouse District (Speicherstadt) in Hamburg, Germany; Llanera and Fadesa Development Companies in Spain; the Barcelona Meeting Point in Spain; Shopping City Sud in Austria; Dubai Maritime City in Dubai and Iberbas residential development in Brazil and Entorna in Columbia, S.A.


Today, Mr. Roca’s firm is actively involved in the development of multi-use projects as a developer/partner in the Florida market with emphasis in office, hotel, parking, and commercial projects in the Miami metro area and the state of Florida.  Recently Mr. Roca has been working on acquisition of distressed properties in the State of Florida including apartments, shopping centers, office and industrial properties for the Royal Fund (in partnership with other investors).  Also he has been acquiring and selling distressed commercial properties for US and foreign investors with emphasis on the Southeast US.


Prior to the creation of Roca Real Estate Advisors, Mr. Roca was associated with the Rouse Company for over 30 years. The Rouse Company was one of the leading urban retail development firms in the U.S., having implemented projects such as Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston, the Gallery at Market East in Philadelphia, Bayside Marketplace, in Miami, Westlake Center in Seattle and Harborplace in Baltimore.  In addition, Ruben Roca participated in the development of the new town of Columbia, MD and the new community of Summerlin in Las Vegas, NV. In recent years, Mr. Roca participated in the development of the Village of Merrick Park in Coral Gables, FL; the expansion of Fashion Show in Las Vegas, NV; the shops at La Cantera in San Antonio, TX and Mary Brickell Village in Miami, FL.


Mr. Roca is a full member of the Urban Land Institute (Global Exchange Council) and the International Council of Shopping Centers.  Mr. Roca edited and coordinated the publication “Market Research For Shopping Centers” for the International Council of Shopping Centers in 1980.


Mr. Roca is a graduate of North Central College in Illinois and pursued graduate studies in Economics at American University in Washington, D.C.

 

Alex Roca has been in the real estate industry since 1993 working from an early age through summer programs interning at Rouse Company shopping centers.  Alex Roca began his professional career with Forest City Enterprises working as the Assistant General Manager of the Charleston Town Center in Charleston, WV and expanded his management experience at Forest City in Flint, MI, Akron, OH and Las Vegas, NV.


In 1997 Alex Roca entered the Development side of the business with the Mills Corporation.  During his 9 years at the Mills Corporation he worked in a number of disciplines including re-development of existing centers (Potomac Mills, Woodbridge, VA, Grapevine Mills, Grapevine, TX, Sawgrass Mills, Sunrise, FL and Ontario Mills, Ontario, CA), new site evaluation and negotiation (Boston, MA and Tampa, FL areas).


In 2006 Alex Roca moved to General Growth Properties as a Senior Development Director.  In his two years with GGP he was responsible for the re-development of several shopping centers in the mid-Atlantic region (Harborplace, Baltimore, MD, White Flint Mall, Baltimore, MD, Owings Mills Town Center, Owings Mills, MD, Four Seasons Town Center, Greensboro, NC).


Alex Roca joined Roca Real Estate Advisors in 2008 and has been active in advising development projects (Meadowlands Xanadu, Meadowlands, NJ), obtaining European tenants for the U.S. market (Zara, Tous, Lizarran), participating in acquisitions of distressed properties in Florida, working on land development alternatives (hotel and health facility, West Kendall, FL) and working on strategies for residential development in Brazil with Iberbas.  Recently Alex has been working on acquisition of distressed properties in the State of Florida including apartments, shopping centers, office and industrial properties for the Royal Fund (in partnership with other investors).  Also he has been acquiring and selling distressed commercial properties for US and foreign investors with emphasis on the Southeast US.


Alex Roca is a full member of the Urban Land Institute (Commercial Retail Council) and the International Council of Shopping Centers.  He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland in College Park, MD.


Alex has been married to Susan Roca since 2003,  has two daughters and resides in Columbia, MD.
